Round 2, Pick 11 (43): Johnthan Banks/CB/Mississippi State. Star Impact: ✪✪✪½
Converted safety, has played inside and outside at corner. Great length and physicality; possesses the longest arms of any cornerback in the draft. Also one of the lowest vertical jumps recorded amongst corners at the combine. Stock slipped due to subpar 4.6-forty time. Has the ability to mirror Darrelle Revis much like Antonio Cromartie did in New York. He will push Eric Wright for the starting job.
Round 3, Pick 11 (73): Mike Glennon/QB/North Carolina State. Star Impact: ✪✪½
Cement-footed quarterback with a rocket-launcher arm. Faulty under pressure, completed just 56% of his passes on third down. Sat behind Russell Wilson for three seasons and now looks to follow in his footsteps once again, as a third round quarterback selection entering a team with uncertainty surrounding the quarterback position and a head coach who had an itchy trigger finger dating back to his days at Rutgers.
Round 4, Pick 3 (100) (From OAK): Akeem Spence/DT/Illinois. Star Impact: ✪✪✪
Holds point of attack well and is quick to rid blockers and get to the ball carrier—accumulated 141 tackles the past two seasons as a starter. Does not possess pass-rush ability, just 3½ career sacks. Should serve as a nice rotational piece and eventual starter. Buccaneers general manger Mark Dominik has stated publicly that he fully expects him to be the starting nose tackle this season.
Round 4, Pick 29 (126) (From NE): William Gholston/DE/Michigan St. Star Impact: ✪✪
Looks the part but inconsistency problems and lack of pass-rush technique puts his talent level on par with his cousin Vernon Gholston. Suffered torn labrum in left shoulder in 2010. Was suspended for one game when he punched Taylor Lewan and twisted Denard Robinson by the facemask during their rivalry game against Michigan. Greg Schiano is a discliplinarion and may be one of the few coaches who can maximize his potential. But will he buy in? That will be something to monitor in training camp. The Bucs acquired this pick in exchange for Aqib Talib.
Round 5, Pick 14 (147): Steven Means/DE/Buffalo. Star Impact: ✪✪½
Athletic, four-year starter who plays angry. Shows ability to drop back in coverage. Has played defensive end in 3-4 and 4-3; had three defensive coordinators during college career. Blocked three kicks on special teams this past season. Combine snub—impressive pro day boosted his draft stock. Is expected to play linebacker with Tampa Bay wand will compete with Jonathan Casillas for the starting strong side spot after the team released Quincy Black during the offseason.
Round 6, Pick 21 (189) (From MIN): Mike James/RB/Miami. Star Impact: ✪✪
Has played both running back and fullback. Reliable pass blocker. Straight line runner who keeps it between the tackles. Averaged over 11 yards per reception on 30 catches as a senior. Rushing average tends to dip in the fourth quarter. Not much wiggle. Slow. Currently slated to backup Doug Martin on the depth chart.
UDFA Watch (O):Montel Harris/RB/Temple. All-time leading rusher in Boston College history.
UDFA Watch (D):Rashaan Melvin/CB/Northern Illinois. Tall, fast, athletic corner. Return guy.
Overall Impact Factor: 2½★
