NEW YORK – As the draft season shifts into high gear, the NFL Draft Bible is proud to announce former NFL player and Europe football ambassador Aki Jones as new host of the ‘Player Spotlight Podcast Series.’

As an undrafted free agent out of Fordham, Jones earned a three-year contract with the Washington Redskins after grabbing the attention of Hall of Fame head coach Joe Gibbs. After an unfortunate injury, Jones parlayed his professional playing talents to Europe and became a key figure in developing the game of American football overseas.

“As a small school prospect coming out of college, Aki Jones knows the mentality of what its like to have 31 teams pass on you and the perseverance required to pursue your dreams, despite the odds being against you,” NFL Draft Bible Founder Ric Serritella stated. “His reach extends beyond the continent. Crossing paths with thousands of players throughout his career will provide invaluable knowledge and insight for players today attempting to chase that same goal.”

In March 2009, Jones moved to Poland where he works as President/Creator of the Super Flag Bol league in Wrocław, which is the first Junior High School flag football league in Poland. He also played for The Crew Wrocław an American Football Club of the Polish American Football League.

“I actually came to Europe to develop the game. I have a degree in marketing and wanted to help promote the game and attract more people.” Jones said proudly. “The current NFL will eventually evolve to encompass players from all over the globe, many will be surprised the talent pool that exists in other countries.”

One of the most beneficial opportunities Jones experienced was his stint in the NFL international offices, where he learned how the league deals with international sports marketing.

In 2011 he moved to Sweden and joined the Arlanda Jets who play in the Swedish Superserien. During the three years in Europe, Jones managed to bring some of the best players and well-known athletes from the NFL and college level, which helped generate more attention to the game of football in Europe.

The New York native continues to help evolve American youth football in Europe with his charitable work, by raising equipment donations from former NFL and pro teams in the states and providing the opportunity for more kids to be able to participate in the sport.

“Germany has a lot of ‘left overs’ from the NFL Europe - blocking tools, bags, machines and so on. Their players can develop faster.” Jones explains, “Eastern Europe on the other hand, some teams are forced to make their own blocking shed. The same luxuries aren’t afforded in Europe like they are in the US.”

As a member of the Fordham Rams in 2003, Jones received First Team All-Patriot League Honors. He finished his career at Fordham with a 2002 Patriot League Championship and team leader in sacks for three consecutive years 2002, 2003 and 2004.

In addition to anchoring the ‘Player Spotlight Show,’ Jones will also provide insight on location at several NFL Draft events to be announced, bringing the objective point of view he displayed as an analyst for Sky Sports and BBC in the UK.
