Hey Heath Shuler looked good at the combine too.....
Amen I think Shuler might be the best comparison because he looks a lot like him. Except Shuler actually accomplished something in college. Didn't he win a heisman? Was Jimmy ever even in the running? IF he stayed one more year I might agree with you if he was able to prove something. You say Colt should be a first round pick and I agree with you and I would take him over Clausen because he won and proved to be a leader in college
Um, Clausen didnt even do anything at the combine. he had a bum toe. And he had a good pro day, anyways.
But Heath Shuler? Really? That's where we're going with this? Throw Ryan Leaf, David Carr, and JaMarcus Russell in there while you're at it.
Obviously a lot of guys are over rated. But Jimmy Clausen isn't one of them.
Man, I want a third round. You helped prove my point again. The Rams want Clausen at 7!!!!
I know the Rams want him at 7 but who has a better QB history the Czar of the Browns or whoever is drafting for the Rams. Holmgrem doesn't like Clausen which is why he wants to trade up for Bradford. If Clausen didn't go to ND is anyone saying he is a first round pick?
Well, first of all, you can't compare Holmgren to Spagnuolo. That's just not fair. Spagnuolo has never drafted a quarterback, so he gets a freebie.
Besides, Holmgren hasn't drafted world-beaters or anything. Aaron Brooks was solid, but he was never a great leader or winner. Matt Hasselbeck was good and a solid leader, but he's never won a Super Bowl. Same with Mark Brunell.
Holmgren didn't draft Rodgers or Favre. And I do recall SEVERAL crap players Holmgren was in charge of giving jobs (Ty Detmer...T.J. Rubley...and others).
And I honestly don't think Clausen going to ND has anything to do with the hype. Agree to disagree on that front.
ND has everything to do with the hype
The Rams have made plenty of draft mistakes over the years
Ty Detmer was a pretty serviceable QB. Don't forget he had Warner in Green Bay but because he had Ty and Brunell with Favre so they didn't have room for him.
Also he has been around great QBs and you have to give some credit to him for their play as well
He didn't draft Warner. Detmer was basically a back-up for his whole career, and when he was a starter he was average at best. You don't get points as a GM for drafting an average player.
I give Holmgren a lot of credit, by the way. He knows what he's doing.
But you're over-playing this ND hype train. I get that the hype is there, but Clausen actually is just a better talent than Quinn was. And by the way, I don't think Quinn is going to be a bust. And if Josh McDaniels thinks he's worth having, I think time will show I'm right.
But the Rodgers debate, again, it proves my point. This is about value and the draft, not how the guys pan out in the league. The title of this argument is JIMMY CLAUSEN WILL BE A TOP 15 PICK, not, will he sit as long as Aarond Rodgers, and will he live up to the hype?
But Rodgers slipped BIG TIME and he clearly still was a good QB, so my point there is that a long slide doesn't mean you can't be good.
