I also want to say that Joe Buck is a scumbag. It sucks we'll have to listen to him for another 6 Yankee wins, but can he hide his anti-Yankee sentiment just a tad...it's worse this year than ever. I could have sworn that Joe Saunders was the next Sandy Koufax.
I also want to say that Alex Rodriquez is a scumbag
Jealousy is a dangerous thing
If you honestly believe I was serious when I said AROD is the most clutch player in the history of sports...you need to lay off the drugs. And if you honestly believe that I was serious that Mo Rivera is the greatest baseball player of all time...well then...I don't really know what to say? Taking my 2am debate seriously after an thrilling win? You're better than that.
Also, I'm just as much of a homer as you are, so that doesn't fly. We all know you to be a huge Boston fan, and yet, are you at every single big Boston sporting event? Does this make you less of a Boston sports fan? Ludicrous. I have a nice big HDTV with surround sound, and I wanted to watch the game in the comfort of my own, warm, non raining home. There are millions of other huge Yankee fans who did the same.
One last thing about Mo Rivera (which should probably be it's own debate), but the reason he is more than just a closer who pitches only gets 3 outs in a game, is that for most of his career, he effectively makes the game a 7-8 inning game. Back in the late 90's, it was a 6-7 inning game. You can't measure this edge. He is one of the best weapons in the history of sports, yes, history of sports. His playoff numbers, when it matters most, are unmatched. Other than 3 slip ups in his entire career, there has been no greater safety net in sports.
If i lived a few miles from Fenway, and tickets were readily available, and there wasnt any economical issues, and the game was on a Saturday night, a playoff game, and i didnt go, then yes, i think it makes me less of a fan....this is hardly the case with me, Red Sox playoff tickets are impossible and i live 100 miles away.
Again, Rivera is arguably the best closers ever....but he is just that, a closer. Closers are failed starters or guys who cant start.Fact.
Failed Starters? So Papelbum is a failed starter? I saw Mo start yrs ago...Dude had 10ks in like 6 innings... I know your upset that Eckersley SUCKED BALLS and then became a Legit closer when he left that shithole called Boston.. Mo is The Greatest Ever...
These playoffs alone show how valuable Mo has been. Look at all the blown saves in huge situations: Nathan, Fuentes, Street, and of course Papelf*ck. Most closers could be considered failed starters, but Mo was actually a decent starter back in the day. Now, he's just one of the most feared weapons in baseball and became a first ballot hall of famer in the process.
Mo Rivera is the best closer to ever play the game, but he is just a closer. He does and has shortened games, but games are still nine innings and there are many more important parts to a baseball team than the closer. As far as sarcasm goes, I don't know you well enough to say when and where we are being sarcastic, but anyone saying that A-Roid is the most clutch player to ever play is either crazy or being sarcastic. It's also very hard to tell, because we all sound like we have major lisps when replaying are claim casts.
Not going to game no matter where you live doesn't make you a better or worse fan than anyone else. Staying true to your teams through thick and thin is the mark of a true fan. I proudly raise and wear my teams gear no matter how they are playing in that given season. Jumping ship when things are tough is the stain of a bad fan, believe me we see plenty of them here in Chicago. Quite possibly the biggest band wagon jumping city in the USA. I couldn't believe how many Cub fans jumped into the celebration when the White Sox won it all in 2006.
