Derrius Guice runs every single carry as if his life depended on it. He is rarely taken down by the first tackler and has a knack for running right out of and around defenders. Guice was easily LSU’s most productive runner during the 2016 season and is a gifted receiver out of the backfield, an aspect of his game that should be incorporated more under new offensive coordinator Matt Canada. The Baton Rouge native has a very effective spin move and transfers his weight extremely well through contact. He is a back that accelerates from zero to sixty very quickly and possesses a legitimate third gear that allows him to run away from any defender. The guy is a true home run threat because of his eye popping acceleration, outstanding balance and excellent anticipation in play development. With his combination of speed and physical running, Guice has the potential to be a true bell cow back in the mold of a David Johnson currently or Michael Turner circa 2010. Derrius Guice will be the top runner selected in the 2019 class if he continues to perform like he did during his sophomore season.
