Gesicki is a long rangy target with ideal height, excellent ball skills and tremendous leaping ability for his size. The New Jersey product was a talented basketball player as a prep, he starred on the volleyball team and was a highly touted tight end recruit. He rewrote the Penn State records for tight ends in 2016 with a breakout year. He is more of an “F” end as opposed to a traditional “Y” end and often times lines up off set, flexed out, in motion or in the backfield. He is a versatile player but his blocking still needs a lot of work, particularly in pull blocking and striking moving targets in the second level. When he does line up as an inline blocker, he doesn’t fire out of his stance and takes off too high to get leverage on the defender. Like many collegiate ends, Gesicki is a glorified receiver that is masquerading as a tight end but he is such a mismatch against defensive backs that he’s able to stay on the field because of the threat he poses as a receiver. Gesicki has phenomenal body control, rare ball skills and the ability outjump most any defender thanks to his height and athleticism.
