Scouting Report: Tarvarus McFadden, CB, Florida State

Fort Lauderdale, FL | 6012 | 198 | 4.52E | 2019

Tall, tough corner with great ball instincts; gets his head turned around quickly and locates the ball in a manner that few backs can. Maintains excellent positioning in man coverage, he makes so many interceptions that appear as if the ball was meant for him. Possesses physical build, uses body lean technique to ride receivers down the sideline. He has had a streaky career and played primarily on special teams as a freshman. Aggressive style of play will naturally result in the occasional big play for the other team but the numerous big plays he makes in between, more than compensates for it. Former Dolphins cornerback Patrick Surtain (Southern Miss) was his position coach at American Heritage High School in Florida and serves as a mentor. Tied for the FBS lead in interceptions with eight in 2016. Missed all of 2017 spring practice following January surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. “He played with it all year. It wasn’t bad,” coach Jimbo Fisher said. “It was torn, and we wanted to go ahead and fix it. [The team trainer] said it’ll be a problem, so get it [done] now during the offseason.” Chose FSU over Georgia and LSU.
