The University of Cincinnati, one of the five oldest football programs in college football, is entering its 124th football season with an all-time record of 551-550-51.
Head coach Butch Jones, formerly at Central Michigan, enters his second season at the helm of the program, returning 16 starters, including nine on defense.
Although they are coming off an eight loss season, the Bearcats are just two years removed from a Sugar Bowl appearance and should not be taken lightly by the Vols.
Predicted to finish fifth in the Big East this season by Athlon Sports, they return the conference’s top passer (Zach Collaros), rusher (Isaiah Pead), tackler (JK Schaffer) and leader in all-purpose yards and receptions (DJ Woods) along with 51 letterwinners from the 2010 squad.
Cincinnati opened the 2011 campaign with a 72-10 victory over another Tennessee University, Austin Peay.
