Robert Lester was a three-year starter for Nick Saban and Kirby Smart's defense at Alabama. At 6'1", 220lbs, Lester has the size to be an impact safety at the NFL level. Add that to the three-years experience in the SEC, Lester has all the ability and intangibles to excel. Also, Alabama has an impeccable pedigree for producing NFL talent.

The safety situation in Carolina definitely works in Lester's favor. Charles Godfrey and Mike Mitchell are the starters heading into camp, with limited experience and talent behind them. This should allow Lester to jump ahead of the likes of D.J. Campbell and Haruki Nakamura and be able to contribute immediately. If Lester plays to his ability, he has the potential to unseat Mitchell or Godfrey and assume a starting position.
