2020 NFL Draft Team Needs: Arizona Cardinals (5-10-1)

By Dakota Follett (@dakfollett) | Published April 16, 2020

With the acquisition of All Pro wide out DeAndre Hopkins, to pair with future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald and the rising Christian Kirk, Arizona now boasts the best triplets in the NFL at wide receiver for last year’s No.1 overall pick Kyler Murray. It’s hard not to feel the excitement for this franchise, led by offensive guru Kliff Kingsbury. Be sure to download your copy of the 2020 NFL Draft Bible, featuring 600+ scouting reports.

QUARTERBACK: Kyler Murray/Brett Hundley/Drew Anderson/Chris Steveler

Money Invested: $10.188M | Percentage of Cap: 5.1% | Need Level: LOW

Overview: Kyler Murray showed a ton of promise last season in his rookie year. It’s only up from here.

RUNNING BACK: Kenyan Drake/Chase Edmonds | Depth: DJ Foster

Money Invested: $10.081M | Percentage of Cap: 5.1% | Need Level: MEDIUM

Overview: Kenyan Drake will play under the transition tag next season after having a wonderful second half of the year with the Cardinals. The Cardinals will likely try to get something long-term worked out with him.

WIDE RECEIVER: DeAndre Hopkins/Larry Fitzgerald/Christian Kirk/Andy Isabella | Depth: Trent Sherfield/Hakeem Butler/KeeSean Johnson/Johnnie Dixon/AJ Richardson

Money Invested: $30.422M | Percentage of Cap: 15.3% | Need Level: LOW

Overview: With the addition of DeAndre Hopkins this offseason, this group is pretty loaded. Larry Fitgerald returns for yet another year and Christian Kirk/Andy Isabella look to continue building on their promising young careers.

TIGHT END: Maxx Williams | Depth: Dan Arnold/Darrell Daniels

Money Invested: $4.975M | Percentage of Cap: 2.5% | Need Level: HIGH

Overview: There is a clear need here for dynamic talent but Kliff Kingsbury doesn’t put much emphasis on the tight end role in his offense. It’ll be interesting to see if they look to add here.

OFFENSIVE TACKLE: DJ Humphries/Justin Murray | Depth: Marcus Gilbert/Joshua Miles/Brett Toth

Money Invested: $15.969M | Percentage of Cap: 8.1% | Need Level: HIGH

Overview: Justin Murray stepped in for the injured Marcus Gilbert at right tackle last year and played well but it makes a ton of sense for the Cardinals to add a top-level guy here early in the draft.

OFFENSIVE GUARD: Justin Pugh/JR Sweezy | Depth: Max Garcia/Lamont Gaillard

Money Invested: $18.865M | Percentage of Cap: 9.5% | Need Level: MEDIUM

Overview: Justin Pugh and JR Sweezy are getting paid a lot of money to be their guard tandem, so they likely won’t look to add to this group.

CENTER: Mason Cole | Depth: Sam Jones

Money Invested: $1.563M | Percentage of Cap: 0.8% | Need Level: HIGH

Overview: Mason Cole was serviceable last year but you have to think they’ll look to upgrade here.

DEFENSIVE LINE: Zach Allen/Corey Peters/Jordan Phillips | Depth: Jonathan Bullard/Miles Brown/Michael Dogbe/Trevon Coley/Lyndon Johnson

Money Invested: $13.171M | Percentage of Cap: 6.6% | Need Level: URGENT

Overview: Run-stuffing Jordan Phillips was signed in free agency to help fill one of the five-technique slots, but the other one is wide open. Plus Corey Peters is aging at nose tackle, and they could look to replace him soon.

EDGE RUSHER: Chandler Jones/Devon Kennard | Depth: Haason Reddick/Kylie Fitts/Vontarrius Dora

Money Invested: $29.621M | Percentage of Cap: 14.9% | Need Level: MEDIUM/HIGH

Overview: Devon Kennard was brought in to rush the edge opposite of superstar Chandler Jones but the Cardinals will likely need to find another contributor here to help their leaky defensive front.

LINEBACKER: Jordan Hicks/De’Vondre Campbell | Depth: Dennis Gardeck/Keishawn Bierria/Ezekiel Turner/Tanner Vallejo

Money Invested: $15.578M | Percentage of Cap: 7.9% | Need Level: MEDIUM

Overview: The Cardinals picked up the versatile De’Vondre Campbell to help Jordan Hicks in the middle of that defense but he’s coming off a not-so-great year and his starting job could be challenged at any point.

CORNERBACK: Patrick Peterson/Robert Alford/Byron Murphy Jr. | Depth: Andre Chachere/Sojourn Shelton/Chris Jones/Duke Thomas/Jalen Davis

Money Invested: $25.830M | Percentage of Cap: 13% | Need Level: HIGH

Overview: The Cardinals will look for Byron Murphy Jr. to take a big leap in his second season to hopefully take over for the inconsistent Robert Alford opposite star corner Patrick Peterson.

SAFETY: Jalen Thompson/Budda Baker | Depth: Deionte Thompson/Chris Banjo/Charles Washington

Money Invested: $5.409M | Percentage of Cap: 2.7% | Need Level: HIGH

Overview: Budda Baker is a stud at free safety but there’s no doubt the Cardinals will look to find an upgrade at strong safety beside him.

KICKER: Zane Gonzalez | Money Invested: $3.259M | Percentage of Cap: 1.6% | Need Level: LOW

PUNTER: Andy Lee/Ryan Winslow | Money Invested: $2.610M | Percentage of Cap: 1.3% | Need Level: LOW

LONG SNAPPER: Aaron Brewer | Money Invested: $1.169M | Percentage of Cap: 0.6% | Need Level: LOW
