2020 NFL Draft Team Needs: Cincinnati Bengals (2-14)

By Dakota Follett (@dakfollett) | Published April 13, 2020

Let the reconstruction begin as the Bengals plan to roll out the red carpet for the start of the Joe Burrow Era. They’ll also need plenty of upgrades on the front line to help protect their new prized asset. Cincinnati has traditionally cut corners on their scouting department, so the elimination of pro days could but them at a slight disadvantage on Day Three of the draft. QUARTERBACK: Andy Dalton/Ryan Finley/Jacob Dolegala

Money Invested: $19.249M | Percentage of Cap: 9.7% | Need Level: URGENT

Overview: Andy Dalton is no longer viewed as a starting quarterback after losing his job to rookie Ryan Finley. Joe Burrow just makes too much sense here at number one.

RUNNING BACK: Joe Mixon/Giovani Bernard | Depth: Trayveon Williams/Rodney Anderson

Money Invested: $7.863M | Percentage of Cap: 4% | Need Level: LOW

Overview: The Bengals still have two more seasons of control on Joe Mixon and extended Giovani Bernard just last offseason.

WIDE RECEIVER: AJ Green/Tyler Boyd/John Ross | Depth: Auden Tate/Alex Erickson/Stanley Morgan/Mike Thomas/Damion Willis/Trenton Irwin/DaMarkus Lodge/Moritz Boehringer

Money Invested: $38.033M | Percentage of Cap: 19.2% | Need Level: LOW

Overview: With the return of AJ Green looming and the emergences of John Ross and Auden Tate as viable targets, the Bengals possess an array of depth here.

TIGHT END: CJ Uzomah/Drew Sample | Depth: Mason Schreck/Cethan Carter/Jordan Franks

Money Invested: $10.693M | Percentage of Cap: 5.4% | Need Level: MEDIUM

Overview: The Bengals will likely lean on the resigned CJ Uzomah and last year’s second round pick Drew Sample to fill the void left by the oft-injured Tyler Eifert.

OFFENSIVE TACKLE: Jonah Williams/Bobby Hart | Depth: Fred Johnson/Isaiah Prince/O’Shea Dugas

Money Invested: $11.884M | Percentage of Cap: 6% | Need Level: MEDIUM

Overview: Last year’s first rounder Jonah Williams will slide into that left tackle spot after missing his entire rookie season. Bobby Hart continues to man the right side, but the Bengals might decide to move on.

OFFENSIVE GUARD: Michael Jordan/Xavier Su’a-Filo | Depth: Alex Redmond

Money Invested: $4.951M | Percentage of Cap: 2.5% | Need Level: HIGH

Overview: The Bengals signed Su’a-Filo to fill the right guard spot but the left guard spot could use an upgrade.

CENTER: Trey Hopkins/Billy Price

Money Invested: $8.769M | Percentage of Cap: 4.4% | Need Level: LOW

Overview: The Bengals already have a decent amount of money invested at the position and likely won’t look to add here.

DEFENSIVE LINE: Geno Atkins/DJ Reader | Depth: Ryan Glasgow/Josh Tupou/Renell Wren

Money Invested: $18.109M | Percentage of Cap: 9.1% | Need Level: LOW

Overview: The team filled a major need here this offseason with the addition of run-stuffing defensive tackle DJ Reader.

EDGE RUSHER: Carlos Dunlap/Sam Hubbard/Carl Lawson | Depth: Andrew Brown/Freedom Akinmoladun

Money Invested: $15.691M | Percentage of Cap: 7.9% | Need Level: LOW

Overview: The Bengals have a solid trio here but you can never have too many pass rushers on your roster.

LINEBACKER: Germaine Pratt/Josh Bynes/Jordan Evans | Depth: Brady Sheldon

Money Invested: $4.087M | Percentage of Cap: 2.1% | Need Level: URGENT

Overview: Josh Bynes comes in from Baltimore to help shore up the run defense but it remains clear that this team needs some linebackers.

CORNERBACK: William Jackson III/Trae Waynes/Mackensie Alexander | Depth: LeShaun Sims/Greg Mabin/Darius Phillips/Torry McTyer/Tony Brown/Winston Rose

Money Invested: $26.977M | Percentage of Cap: 13.6% | Need Level: MEDIUM

Overview: Dre Kirkpatrick and Darqueze Dennard were let go in favor of Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander. It remains to be seen if William Jackson III can return to his No.1 corner status.

SAFETY: Jessie Bates III/Vonn Bell/Shawn Williams | Depth: Brandon Wilson/Trayvon Henderson

Money Invested: $13.642M | Percentage of Cap: 6.9% | Need Level: LOW

Overview: Vonn Bell was brought over from New Orleans to slide in alongside young stud Jessie Bates III. Shawn Williams provides depth here in the third safety role that has grown mightily crucial in NFL defenses today.

KICKER: Randy Bullock | Money Invested: $1.875M | Percentage of Cap: 0.9% | Need Level: MEDIUM

PUNTER: Kevin Huber | Money Invested: $3.050M | Percentage of Cap: 1.5% | Need Level: LOW

LONG SNAPPER: Clark Harris/Dan Godsil | Money Invested: $1.740M | Percentage of Cap: 0.9% | Need Level: LOW
