Since 1999, with the Rams now included, 17 of the past 40 conference champions (42.5 percent), failed to reach the playoffs the following season. This roster has churned over significantly since their Super Bowl run two years ago. Gone are running back Todd Gurley (Falcons), wide receiver Brandin Cooks (Texans), defensive end Dante Fowler (Falcons) and linebacker Corey Littleton (Raiders). The Clay Matthews (cut) experiment over after just one season. Los Angeles has plenty of needs entering the draft. QUARTERBACK: Jared Goff/John Wolford
Money Invested: $36.728M | Percentage of Cap: 18.5% | Need Level: MEDIUM
Overview: Jared Goff has been inconsistent recently but he’s under a pricy contract until 2025. The Rams will likely look to add a young quarterback to back him up.
RUNNING BACK: Malcolm Brown/Darrell Henderson | Depth: John Kelly
Money Invested: $2.847M | Percentage of Cap: 1.4% | Need Level: MEDIUM
Overview: The Rams drafted Darrell Henderson last year probably because they anticipated releasing Todd Gurley this offseason and he looks to be taking over the backfield from now on.
WIDE RECEIVER: Cooper Kupp/Robert Woods/Josh Reynolds | Depth: Nsimba Webster/Greg Dortch
Money Invested: $14.192M | Percentage of Cap: 7.1% | Need Level: HIGH
Overview: The trade of Brandin Cooks to the Texans leaves a void here to fill on the outside.
TIGHT END: Tyler Higbee/Gerald Everett | Depth: Johnny Mundt/Kendall Blanton/Ethan Wolf
Money Invested: $12.583M | Percentage of Cap: 6.3% | Need Level: LOW
Overview: The duo of Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett has made an impact for this Rams’ offense and neither of their jobs are in jeopardy.
OFFENSIVE TACKLE: Andrew Whitworth/Rob Havenstein | Depth: Bobby Evans
Money Invested: $15.347M | Percentage of Cap: 7.7% | Need Level: MEDIUM
Overview: Andrew Whitworth is taking his career year-by-year, which means a hole at left tackle could open at any minute. Depth and youth needs to be added to this group.
OFFENSIVE GUARD: Austin Corbett/David Edwards | Depth: Joe Noteboom/Jamil Demby/Chandler Brewer/Jeremiah Kolone
Money Invested: $4.894M | Percentage of Cap: 2.5% | Need Level: URGENT
Overview: The interior of this offensive line is an open competition after struggling mightily last season, so it’d be surprising if the Rams didn’t add here in the draft.
CENTER: Austin Blythe | Depth: Brian Allen/Coleman Shelton/Nate Trewyn
Money Invested: $6.172M | Percentage of Cap: 3.1% | Need Level: MEDIUM/HIGH
Overview: Austin Blythe was brought back to compete at center and guard. He has started each of the last two years, so it seems that his job may be the most certain out of anyone.
DEFENSIVE LINE: Aaron Donald/A’Shawn Robinson/Michael Brockers | Depth: Sebastian Joseph-Day/Greg Gaines/Tanzel Smart/Marquise Copeland
Money Invested: $39.337M | Percentage of Cap: 19.8% | Need Level: LOW
Overview: A’Shawn Robinson was signed in free agency and Michael Brockers chose to come back after initially agreeing to join the Ravens. This starting defensive front is set but the depth positions still need to be filled.
EDGE RUSHER: Samson Ebukam/Leonard Floyd | Depth: Ogbonnia Okoronkwo/Natrez Patrick/Justin Lawler
Money Invested: $14.475M | Percentage of Cap: 7.3% | Need Level: HIGH
Overview: Leonard Floyd steps in for the loss of Dante Fowler Jr. but it’s only a one-year deal and his production has been underwhelming thus far in his career.
LINEBACKER: Travin Howard/Troy Reeder | Depth: Kenny Young/Jachai Polite/Micah Kiser/Jeff Holland
Money Invested: $4.890M | Percentage of Cap: 2.5% | Need Level: URGENT
Overview: Cory Littleton was lost in free agency and the Rams need to not only replace him but find someone to slide in at the other inside backer spot as well.
CORNERBACK: Jalen Ramsey/Troy Hill/Darious Williams | Depth: David Long/Adonis Alexander/Donte Deayon
Money Invested: $21.318M | Percentage of Cap: 10.8% | Need Level: URGENT
Overview: Troy Hill can’t be counted on as a reliable starter just yet and the Rams need a replacement for Nickell Robey-Coleman in the nickel.
SAFETY: Taylor Rapp/John Johnson III | Depth: Jake Gervase/Nick Scott
Money Invested: $4.754M | Percentage of Cap: 2,4% | Need Level: MEDIUM
Overview: John Johnson III has stood out as an up-and-coming young safety in this league and Taylor Rapp was drafted high last year to follow in those footsteps. Depth spots behind this duo need to be addressed however.
KICKER: None | Money Invested: $0M | Percentage of Cap: 0% | Need Level: URGENT
PUNTER: Johnny Hekker | Money Invested: $4.687M | Percentage of Cap: 2.4% | Need Level: NONE
LONG SNAPPER: Jake McQuaide | Money Invested: $1.080M | Percentage of Cap: 0.5% | Need Level: LOW
