By Dakota Follett (@dakfollett) | Published April 18, 2020

It was a subpar season for the Steelers, as they found out that life after ‘Big Ben’ could be tough, the search for a competent backup/future starter should continue. Some repair work is needed in the trenches on both side of the football, as Pittsburgh looks to bounce back to the playoffs in 2020. QUARTERBACK: Ben Roethlisberger/Mason Rudolph/Devlin Hodges/Paxton Lynch/JT Barrett

Money Invested: $26.930M | Percentage of Cap: 13.6% | Need Level: HIGH

Overview: Roethlisberger is getting old and nobody knows how much more his body can handle. Rudolph and Hodges didn’t exactly shine in Big Ben’s absence, so don’t be surprised if the Steelers make a move for his eventual successor.

RUNNING BACK: James Conner | Depth: Jaylen Samuels/Benny Snell Jr./Kerrith Whyte/Trey Edmunds/Darrin Hall/Ralph Webb

Money Invested: $5.387M | Percentage of Cap: 2.7% | Need Level: MEDIUM

Overview: The Steelers had injury issues here last season as well, so grabbing another back in the later rounds to come in and compete makes sense.

FULLBACK: Derek Watt

Money Invested: $2.083M | Percentage of Cap: 1.1% | Need Level: NONE

Overview: The brother of TJ was brought in to take over for Roosevelt Nix in the fullback role. Jaylen Samuels can also slide in here if needed.

WIDE RECEIVER: JuJu Smith-Schuster/James Washington/Diontae Johnson | Depth: Ryan Switzer/Deon Cain/Amara Darboh/Jamal Curtis/Quadree Henderson/Anthony Johnson

Money Invested: $7.681M | Percentage of Cap: 3.9% | Need Level: MEDIUM

Overview: James Washington and Diontae Johnson did prove to be productive when asked to step into larger roles last season but the Steelers could afford to spend some more money here and grab a bonified number two option for Big Ben.

TIGHT END: Eric Ebron/Vance McDonald | Depth: Zach Gentry/Kevin Rader/Christian Scotland-Williamson

Money Invested: $9.309M | Percentage of Cap: 4.7% | Need Level: LOW

Overview: Eric Ebron was added as a receiving compliment to Vance McDonald, something this offense was missing mightily.

OFFENSIVE TACKLE: Alejandro Villanueva/Matt Feiler | Depth: Zach Banner/Chukwuma Okorafor/Jarron Jones/Derwin Gray

Money Invested: $14.962M | Percentage of Cap: 7.5% | Need Level: LOW

Overview: The tandem of Alejandro Villanueva and Matt Feiler proved to be a solid one last season and this unit possesses good depth with the versatility of swing tackle Zach Banner.

OFFENSIVE GUARD: Stefen Wisniewski/David DeCastro | Depth: Christian Dilauro

Money Invested: $15.496M | Percentage of Cap: 7.8% | Need Level: MEDIUM

Overview: Super Bowl Champion Stefen Wisniewski was brought over from the Chiefs to take over at left guard, but depth and younger options can be found in the draft.

CENTER: Maurkice Pouncey | Depth: JC Hassenauer

Money Invested: $8.2M | Percentage of Cap: 4.1% | Need Level: LOW

Overview: Maurkice Pouncey is getting older but is still productive and under contract through 2021.

DEFENSIVE LINE: Stephon Tuitt/Daniel McCullers/Cameron Heyward | Depth: Chris Wormley/Tyson Alualu/Lavon Hooks/Cavon Walker/Isaiah Buggs/Henry Mondeaux/Dewayne Hendrix

Money Invested: $38.797M | Percentage of Cap: 19.6% | Need Level: MEDIUM

Overview: Stephon Tuitt and Cameron Heyward are one of the league’s best duos on the interior and the Steelers have good depth here. However, they could look to add a nose tackle to replace the departured Javon Hargrave.

EDGE RUSHER: TJ Watt/Bud Dupree | Depth: Olasunkanmi Adeniyi/Tuzar Skipper/Christian Kuntz

Money Invested: $20.814M | Percentage of Cap: 10.5% | Need Level: MEDIUM

Overview: TJ Watt is one of the bright young stars of the league but beyond that everything on the edge is an uncertainty here. Bud Dupree will play on the franchise tag next season, and the Steelers lack depth behind those two.

LINEBACKER: Devin Bush/Vince Williams

Money Invested: $11.321M | Percentage of Cap: 5.7% | Need Level: MEDIUM

Overview: Devin Bush is a young stud in the middle of that defense and Vince Williams is a notable leader for them. The depth behind them is very scarce, however.

CORNERBACK: Joe Haden/Steven Nelson/Mike Hilton | Depth: Cameron Sutton/Justin Layne/Alexander Myres

Money Invested: $22.489M | Percentage of Cap: 11.3% | Need Level: HIGH

Overview: Adding a top-notch corner opposite Joe Haden should be a priority. Steven Nelson is a serviceable guy but an upgrade could be found.

SAFETY: Minkah Fitzpatrick/Terrell Edmunds | Depth: Jordan Dangerfield/Marcus Allen/Tray Matthews/John Battle/Tyree Kinnel

Money Invested: $8.223M | Percentage of Cap: 4.1% | Need Level: LOW

Overview: This young safety duo has the chance to grow into one of the league’s best and their depth is solid.

KICKER: Chris Boswell | Money Invested: $2.598M | Percentage of Cap: 1.3% | Need Level: LOW

PUNTER: Jordan Berry | Money Invested: $2.175M | Percentage of Cap: 1.1% | Need Level: LOW

LONG SNAPPER: Kameron Canaday | Money Invested: $1.135M | Percentage of Cap: 0.6% | Need Level: LOW
