The biggest surprise of the offseason could be the Buccaneers signing Tom Brady. The future Hall of Famer will have plenty of weapons to throw to in Tampa, something that was a glaring issue during his final season in New England. While the pieces are in place on offense, there are several gaping holes on defense that need to be addressed. QUARTERBACK: Tom Brady/Blaine Gabbert/Ryan Griffin
Money Invested: $26.750M | Percentage of Cap: 13.5% | Need Level: MEDIUM/HIGH
Overview: The Buccaneers brought in Tom Brady to be their captain to help steer the ship for the next two years but the uncertainty beyond that has to have the Buccaneers looking ahead.
RUNNING BACK: Ronald Jones II/Dare Ogunbowale | Depth: TJ Logan/Aca’Cedric Ware
Money Invested: $4.039M | Percentage of Cap: 2% | Need Level: HIGH
Overview: Ronald Jones II did take a step forward last year but it’s hard to imagine the Buccaneers being content with what they currently have in the backfield. Look for them to add here in the draft.
WIDE RECEIVER: Mike Evans/Chris Godwin/Scotty Miller | Depth: Justin Watson/Jaydon Mickens/Bryant Mitchell/Cyril Grayson/Spencer Schnell
Money Invested: $24.793M | Percentage of Cap: 12.5% | Need Level: MEDIUM/HIGH
Overview: The elite pairing of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin made Tampa Bay an attractive enough spot to entice Tom Brady. Now the Buccaneers need to address the depth behind them in order to keep Tom Brady happy.
TIGHT END: OJ Howard/Cameron Brate | Depth: Antony Auclair/Tanner Hudson/Jordan Leggett/Codey McElroy
Money Invested: $11.215M | Percentage of Cap: 5.7% | Need Level: MEDIUM
Overview: OJ Howard was shaky last season but he’s as athletic and dynamic as they come at tight end. Cameron Brate has always been a reliable target when the Bucs have needed to lean on him.
OFFENSIVE TACKLE: Donovan Smith/Joe Haeg | Depth: Brad Seaton/Anthony Fabiano
Money Invested: $18.160M | Percentage of Cap: 9.2% | Need Level: HIGH
Overview: Donovan Smith is getting paid a ton of money to be the blindside protector but Demar Dotson is still looming in free agency and the Bucs could only find Joe Haeg from Indianapolis to replace him.
OFFENSIVE GUARD: Ali Marpet/Alex Cappa | Depth: Aaron Stinnie/Zack Bailey
Money Invested: $13.406M | Percentage of Cap: 6.8% | Need Level: MEDIUM
Overview: Ali Marpet is a stud at left guard but the Bucs can’t be sure quite yet that Alex Cappa is the long-term answer on the right side.
CENTER: Ryan Jensen
Money Invested: $10M | Percentage of Cap: 5% | Need Level: MEDIUM
Overview: Ryan Jensen has been a great leader for that Bucs offensive line but depth behind him will need to be added.
DEFENSIVE LINE: Ndamukong Suh/Vita Vea/William Gholston | Depth: Rakeem Nunez-Roches/Jeremiah Ledbetter/Patrick O’Connor
Money Invested: $19.718M | Percentage of Cap: 10% | Need Level: MEDIUM/HIGH
Overview: Ndamukong Suh was brought back but only for one year. His declining play has to signal to the Buccaneers that a replacement is due.
EDGE RUSHER: Jason Pierre-Paul/Shaquil Barrett | Depth: Kahzin Daniels/Anthony Nelson/Quinton Bell
Money Invested: $30.481M | Percentage of Cap: 15.4% | Need Level: HIGH
Overview: Shaquil Barrett was great last season but is playing next year on the uncertainty of the franchise tag. Jason Pierre-Paul is aging on the opposite edge and it’s time for the Buccaneers to start planning for the future here.
LINEBACKER: Lavonte David/Devin White | Depth: Kendell Beckwith/Jack Cichy/Kevin Minter/Noah Dawkins
Money Invested: $20.787M | Percentage of Cap: 10.5% | Need Level: LOW
Overview: Devin White is indeed the young stud they drafted him to be and Lavonte David has been reliably consistent throughout his career. There’s solid depth here as well.
CORNERBACK: Carlton Davis/Sean Murphy-Bunting/Jamel Dean | Depth: MJ Stewart/Ryan Smith/Mazzi Wilkins/John Franklin/Deiondre’ Hall
Money Invested: $9.008M | Percentage of Cap: 4.5% | Need Level: URGENT
Overview: The secondary is by far the biggest weakness and need on this football team and it all starts on the outside.
SAFETY: Jordan Whitehead/Justin Evans | Depth: Andrew Adams/Mike Edwards/D’Cota Dixon/Herb Miller
Money Invested: $5.682M | Percentage of Cap: 2.9% | Need Level: URGENT
Overview: It’s clear the Buccaneers aren’t spending enough on their secondary and that will need to change if this team wants to reach the next level.
KICKER: Matt Gay | Money Invested: $0.756M | Percentage of Cap: 0.4% | Need Level: LOW
PUNTER: Bradley Pinion | Money Invested: $2.700M | Percentage of Cap: 1.4% | Need Level: LOW
LONG SNAPPER: Zach Triner | Money Invested: $0.675M | Percentage of Cap: 0.3% | Need Level: MEDIUM
