AUGUSTIN MANDE | Ottawa Sooners (CJFL)/Ottawa Junior Riders (QMJFL) | RB | #23 | 5104 | 235 | Ottawa, Ontario | 07.25.95
Overview: A big, bruising back capable of pounding the ball between the tackles, Mande possesses great size and lower body power, which enables him to run through tackles, push the pile and move the chains. While his overall athleticism will need to continue, Mande projects as a running back who is built to carry a heavy workload at the next level.
Pros: An extra large back who is a handful to bring down, Mande demonstrates the ability to handle a large quantity of carries due to his overall size. He consistently leans forward while finishing off runs and is able to run through tackles on nearly every carry. Mande demonstrates patience and vision while pressing the hole, along with the ability to support in pass protection. His ability to run, catch, block and play special teams (was on all units) offers plenty of versatility.
Cons: One area where Mande can improve upon is incorporating some change of direction moves/cutback ability in his game. While he is never going to be a burner, Mande has continued to work on developing his vertical speed and short area foot quickness.
Background: Born in the Congo, Mande grew up in Montreal, where he played soccer and was a sprinter on the track team before moving to Fort Mcmurray, Albert and then landing in Ottawa in 2010. He was introduced to football in middle school and has been playing since he was 14 years old. Outside of football, he considers himself a computer geek who loves technology. Mande plays several instruments, including the guitar, drums and keyboard. A positive influence in the locker room who takes a lead by example approach and is considered a high character player.
