Deon Cain is yet another long, rangy, athletic Clemson playmaker that will be a first round draft pick if he plays his cards right. Cain has spent some time in Dabo Swinney’s doghouse for disciplinary reasons and maturity will be a question mark going forward but that’s about the only red flag here, as the guy has rare speed for a receiver his size and may prove to be one of the Tigers’ best products at this position with the upside he has. He is dominant in jump ball situations, he simply operates under the “my ball mentality” rule, he locates the ball quickly and has the leaping ability to make the difference. Cain consistently separates from his corner and possesses the deep speed needed to run away from defenders as well as close on the football. As a former high school read-option quarterback, Cain knows how to read coverages pre-snap and he understands how to bail his quarterback out, finding the holes in the holes in the secondary when the play breaks down. Cain profiles as an Amari Cooper type of receiver that can win deep and will be a game changer at the next level.
