Scouting Report: Mark Andrews, TE, Oklahoma

Scottsdale, AZ | 6042 | 253 | 4.72E | 2019

Andrews has great hands, ideal athleticism for his size and a real understanding for how to get open and where the holes are in coverage. He scored seven touchdowns as a redshirt freshman as a non-starter and really developed as a go to option for Baker Mayfield in 2016. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age nine but manages it well and it hasn’t been an issue to hinder his game. Andrews locates the ball so well, he was a high school wide receiver and plays like it, often flexing out in the slot as an extra pass catcher in Oklahoma’s spread sets.  He catches well behind him, transitions quickly from the catch and has deceptive speed to run away from defenders. He is not a strong blocker and has had concentration issues in some games (Texas in 2016) but he is a dynamic receiver who has a knack for finding the openings in the opposition’s zone and knows how to come back to a scrambling quarterback on the broken play. While not a finished product, Andrews could prove to be a real red zone weapon and intermediate chain mover as an H-Back at the next level with how efficiently he gets open and what kind of mismatch he presents. It would appear he has the potential to be a future first round pick, however, he has been dealing with a nagging quad injury during the first few games of 2017.
