Scouting Report: Will Grier, QB, West Virginia

Davidson, NC | 6012 | 204 | 4.62E | 2019

Possesses a lightning quick release and a smooth delivery, with the ability to get the ball out before the defender has a chance to break on the route—capable of throwing receivers open. He’s hyper accurate and shows tremendous touch on deep balls (especially fade patterns), knows when to zip it, when to take the mustard off; has shown arm strength to squeeze the ball in tight windows and also hit deep targets in stride. Understands how to break down a defense pre-snap. He has a very effective pump-fake, he knows how to look off a safety and is thriving in Dana Holgerson’s up-tempo spread attack in 2017. His feet and throwing motion are synced together nicely, which allows him to make all the pro level throws due to his sound mechanics. Operates primarily out of shotgun formation. Shows some happy feet in pocket and tends to bounce/hop in pocket. A mature leader on and off the field, he is already married and has one daughter. He began his career at Florida but during his redshirt freshman season, he was suspended 12 months for violating the NCAA’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs and decided to transfer at the end of the year. His brothers Hayes and Nash are social media stars. His father, Chad Grier, was a backup quarterback at East Carolina in 1989 and 1990 and was Will’s head coach on several state high school championship teams in North Carolina. He should see his draft stock rise after scouts remember what kind of arm talent he has at his disposal—a darkhorse candidate for the first round if he continues to develop and progress at the rate he’s been going!
